He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Dance from LASALLE College of the Arts with a passion for performance. From 2007 he has been a Malay dance performer, instructor, choreographer and practitioner with Artiste Seni Budaya, under the tutelage of Mr Rizman Kassim. Through a wide variety of platforms and collaborative works, he strives to deepen his perspective through active conversations of dance artistry.

Sharul’s choreographic creativity is grounded in intricate expressions and complexity of movement. He is passionate about creating contemporary works that explore movement language of Malay traditional form. He is dedicated to finding ways to bring traditional Malay dance closer to society through this artistic work. He believes that by helping the wider community relate to the Malay art form in new ways, he can help keep the tradition alive and relevant.

Sharul founded S4cred Conn8tion (Sacred Connection) a dance collective in 2020. The overarching goal of the collective is to provide artistic growth that acknowledges each individual body as a sacred space, where the root of artistry begins from one’s journey in life. A space to germinate connection between artists and the community.

He is currently an Associate of P7:1SMA Ltd, a dance community, which considers performance-making as necessary disruptions, Malay as a concept, and dance as a strategy for common humanity. We are delighted to have him on the TDP team to share his unique dance perspectives and deep performance experience
