Kids and Teen Classes

Ballet

Ballet classes are divided into levels depending on age and ability. The levels are created according to the structure of the Paris Opera Ballet School.

Please note that the Ballet instructor will assess each student and assign a level that is appropriate for the student’s age and ability.

Classical Ballet is offered at all levels:

Ballet Introduction: 3-4yrs
Introduction 1: 4-5yrs
Introduction 2: 5-6yrs
Foundation: 6-7yrs
Pre-Division: 7-9yrs
Division 1: 9-11yrs
Division 2: 11-13yrs
Division 3: 13yrs+

Contemporary

Contemporary Dance is an expressive style of dance which blends several styles into its own unique style. It is influenced by elements such as Ballet, Jazz, Modern and even Hip Hop. Our Contemporary Classes aim to create a space for students to allow them to move freely with expression and their own interpretation. These classes focus on increasing flexibility and strength, total body connectivity and are a combination of technique, fluidity and feeling to create powerful and moving choreography. Contemporary also involves floorwork, learning how to roll and leap safely and partner work. Age 10-Adults

BALLET POINTE ESPOIR

Dancing on Pointe is a major milestone in a dancer’s journey. The class focuses on helping students build strength in their feet, ankles and legs to allow them to enjoy dancing en pointe!

For this class students should already have taken a few years of ballet and assessed to be ready to go on pointe.

TECHNIQUE SKILLS

This class focuses on general dance technique, such as Jazz and Contemporary amongst other styles. Emphasis is on flexibility, strength and control needed for skills like turns, jumps, leaps and floor tricks. Previous dance or gymnastic experience required.

Junior Tech: 9-12 yrs
Teen Tech: Teens (Intermediate level)

Jazz

Jazz Dance is a fast paced and energetic form of dance, which develops skills in strength, flexibility, technique and rhythm. Jazz combines techniques of Ballet and Modern dance with current forms of popular dance. Our Jazz classes include warm-up, isolations, stretches, across-the-floor progressions and choreography combinations. It involves upbeat music and aims to inspire our students to have fun while learning detailed technique in a team environment. These classes are offered at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels. Age 4-Adults.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop classes are a great way to introduce dance and movement to children. They have fun and build confidence at the same time. Classes focus on downbeat and groovy body movements. Learn nifty footwork and move and groove to both old and new school styles like Top Rock, Uprock, Waving, Harlem shake, shuffle. Great way to have fun while training coordination and musicality! Get some cool tricks to bust a move in style!

Hip Hop: 7-11yrs

Elite Performance Group

TDP Elite Performance classes are strictly by invitation only and focus on fine-tuning technique, tricks and develop performance skills, confidence and experience.

Students in these classes are expected to attend a certain number of classes per week and also hold a level of commitment to the classes and performances.

Street Dance

Street is a combination of Hip Hop, Funk, Jazz and Technique. This style is popular with children, teens and adults, as it covers many styles to upbeat funky music, creating feel good moves. This style is light-hearted, fun and a great workout. Age 6-Adults

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance is a style of dance with flowing and emotive movements based on Ballet, Jazz and Modern Dance techniques. Our Lyrical classes guide students to portray strong emotions through classical movement and focuses on developing technique, strength, flexibility and musicality. Our Lyrical classes begin with a Ballet-inspired warm up and stretch, combined with Jazz technique exercises in the centre and across the floor, finishing up with a choreography. This class is suited for anyone who wants to grow their dance technique while also enjoying the opportunity to dance with emotion. Age 5-Adults

K-POP

K-Pop Dance is a trendy, energetic and fun class for kids, especially those into the latest K-Pop moves and music. After a warm-up, students will learn the latest K-Pop dance routines that have taken the world by storm. We also focus on learning technique and showmanship.

K-Pop (9-12yrs)

TAP

Tap is a musical and energetic class, dancers wear shoes fitted with metal taps to create rhythmic or percussive sounds. So besides dancing along to music, students are also creating music with their feet. Tap helps develop a sense of rhythm and teaches improvisation and syncopation.

Little Stompers: 4-5yrs (A pre-tap dance class where students will first learn rhythmic and listening skills using their hands and feet. No tap shoes required)

Little Tappers: 6-9yrs
Junior Tap: 10-12yrs
Teen Tap: 13-16yrs
Adult Tap

TODDLER RHYTHM & MOVEMENT

It is never too early to introduce movement and musicality to our children. Join our Dancing Tots class where we introduce dance movements through a specialized curriculum, in a way that makes it fun for young children. We believe that dance at this age should be learnt through imaginative exploration, adventure and fun. There are so many benefits to dancing for children – developing control, coordination and confidence, a greater awareness of how their body moves through space and appreciation for music.

This class is intended as a drop-off class, but you can accompany till your child is ready.

Non- Timetable Sessions

En Tete A Tete (Private Lessons)

These classes are not on the timetable and are requested by the student/individual by separate arrangement. Private Lessons, Coaching and Exam Preparations.

(Please note that TDP does not offer exams)

Masterclass

Ballet Masterclasses will be held on Sundays (3 hours) and there will be one masterclass per term. Each masterclass will start with Barre exercises and be followed by a short centre, in connection with the theme. However, the main focus of the class will be on different artistic-themed work and Classical Repertoire. A good classical level is required.
