Biography

Denise is an accomplished singer, dancer and actress with extensive experience as a teacher and performer. Denise is trained in ballet (RAD), jazz dance (CSTD), tap dance (ISTD), classical singing (Trinity Guildhall), musical theatre singing and pop singing and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Musical Theatre from LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore. After graduation, Denise participated in the YES Academy Musical Theatre Summer Programme (Bangkok, Jakarta) under full scholarship from the American Embassy and the New York University Steinhardt Contemporary Vocal Summer Programme. Denise is also a qualified Polestar Pilates (mat) instructor and is currently pursuing training in Gyrotonic Expansion System.

Denise is an experienced teacher who has worked with young children from preschoolers to adults. She has extensive dance teaching experience with various established schools in Singapore and Malaysia. Besides her passion for teaching, Denise also brings deep experience as a professional performer to her classes. Denise was recently nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical in the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2020 for her role as Joanne in The Working Dead (an original Malaysian musical comedy). With a passion for collaboration and creativity, she created a 10-minute musical for the Short+Sweet Festival 2018 and won several awards including the Mercedes-Benz Award for Creative Excellence.

Denise is looking forward to joining The Dance Place team and sharing her passion for movement and voice with students of all ages. She has only two very important rules in her class – have fun and be kind!
